JOPLIN, Mo. – The Harding Lady Bisons' early second-half lead would not last as No. 19 Missouri Southern scored three goals in the final 10 minutes to claim a 4-1 victory Sunday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, Harding (1-1-0) took the lead when senior Lynsey Clissold scored on an assist from senior Kendyl Washburn six minutes into the second half. It was Clissold's first goal of the season and the 10 th of her career, becoming the 13th player in Harding history to record 10 career goals.
Missouri Southern (2-0-0) tied the game 1-1 on a goal from Sarah Evers in the 60th minute. The Lions took the lead for good when Jentri White scored in the 82nd minute. Nikki Llewellyn scored twice in the final minutes of the game to help Missouri Southern extend the lead.
The last time the Lady Bisons allowed four goals in a game was a 4-0 loss to No. 4 West Florida in 2005. Harding is now 3-12-1 all-time against nationally-ranked opponents.
Harding attempted only one shot in the first half and shot five times in the match. Missouri Southern shot 16 times.
The Lady Bisons will play Nova Southeastern on Thursday at 4 p.m. in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
